American Red Cross, Northwest Arkansas Chapter
As part of the American National Red Cross, we provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
Description:
Red Cross disaster response includes local, national, and international responses ranging from a single house fire to the devastation of Katrina and the China earthquake. Training is free and many levels are offered. In the areas of prevention and preparation, we teach disaster preparedness and a wide variety of CPR, first aid, and related courses. In service to military families, we are the only organization entrusted by the US government to deliver emergency messages to those deployed and to confirm the details of crises at home and get emergency leave approved.
History:
The American National Red Cross was founded by Clara Barton on May 21, 1881. The Red Cross received its first congressional charter in 1900 and a second in 1905. The Northwest Arkansas Chapter was formed in 1918. The congressional charter, which remains in effect today, sets forth the purposes of the organization that include relief to and emergency communications for the American armed forces and their families and providing national and international disaster relief and mitigation.
