Community Kitchen Of North Iowa, Inc.
The Community Kitchen of North Iowa Inc. is an independent, non-profit corporation, which works to meet the long and short-term hunger of people in the north Iowa area.
Description:
We provide a daily/balanced/noon meal, six days a week, including Saturdays. We are proud to be a leading agency in overcoming the ill effects of hunger and malnutrition among our citizens. Our clients include the low-income elderly, families with limited resources, the working poor, those with mental or physical handicaps, and people who are lonely, disenfranchised, or who need the hospitality our facility provides. The meals are prepared by volunteers who provide 99% of the work effort and support to The Community Kitchen. These volunteers are from local and area religious denominations, community service organizations, junior high and senior high school classes, youth groups and local businesses.
History:
The Community Kitchen was founded in 1982 by a group of concerned ministers and lay people. Five years later The Community Kitchen of North Iowa, Inc. was established as an independent, non-profit corporation, which seeks to meet the long and short term needs of hungry people throughout north Iowa. In April 1996 The Kitchen moved from quarters in the Salvation Army building to our own facility at 606 North Monroe in Mason City.
