Kossuth Connections

Kossuth Connections would like to have Kossuth County a safe, healthy, crime and drug free place to work live and raise children.

Description:
Kossuth Connections is a substance abuse prevention coalition that has been in existance since 1997. Sub-committees work on environmental strategies, media strategies, and strategic planning. Youth throughout the county meet, with a youth coordinator, to identify ways they can better the world they live.

History:
Kossuth Connections started with a Community Needs Assessment through Community Health. The assessment identified three top health priorities (1) Mental Health, (2) Elder Health, and (3) Youth Substance Abuse. Through this assessment, the coalition formed. The coalition wrote a DECAT grant to fund Search Institute to hold a community forum. Later that year the coalition hired the first coalition coordinator. Seven years later, now funded under a Drug Free Community Support Grant and is recognized throughout the state as a youth development leader.
