Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on February 10, 2009 |
This volunteer opportunity allows the individual to respond to disaster emergencies on a national level. When a disaster occurs in an area outside of your community and the Red Cross in that area is unable to staff the relief effort, National Headquarters may call volunteers from other chapters to respond. Volunteers are deployed for approximately 2 - 3 weeks at the location of the disaster and may work for long hours and live with only the basics. While deployed to the disaster area, the DSHR worker may have a variety of responsibilities based on his/her training. These responsibilities may include: running a shelter, preparing case work, preparing meals, delivering meals, assessing damage, delivering clean-up kits, etc. The opportunity to make a significant impact in the lives of others during their time of need is tangible and significant. Each individual must complete a free background check before placement in a volunteer opportunity. All training required to respond to a National Disaster, including processes, procedures and responsibilities, is provided by your local American Red Cross. This opportunity is sponsored by: American Red Cross Of North Central Iowa
