History:
Jackson Recovery Centers, Inc. (Formerly known as Gordon Recovery Centers) is a private organization incorporated under the Iowa non-profit statute. The formation of Jackson Recovery Centers, Inc. in January of 1998 brought the resources and historical contributions of a number of prior organizations, each with long, successful histories of providing both private and public-funded alcohol/drug education, prevention, and treatment services:
Gordon Chemical Dependency Center: Established in 1977, Gordon was the first program in Iowa to provide treatment services specifically tailored to the needs of chemically dependent adolescents and their family members.
Siouxland Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse: The community-based Siouxland Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (SCADA) was created in 1966 and provided substance abuse prevention and chemical dependency treatment services to the residents of Woodbury, Plymouth, Cherokee, and Ida counties continuously since that date.
St. Luke’s Health System: In 1986, SCADA merged with St. Luke's Regional Medical Center, became the “Addiction Center,” and affiliated the outpatient and halfway house services with the detoxification and inpatient services. In 1989, Gordon Chemical Dependency Center affiliated with St. Luke’s to form a subsidiary corporation, Gordon Recovery Centers under which all behavioral services were organized. Through this affiliation, a comprehensive continuum of addiction-related services was assembled within a single corporate entity.
Midwest Iowa Alcohol and Drug Addiction Center: In February of 1995, the assets of the former Midwest Iowa Alcohol and Drug Addiction Center (MIADAC) were acquired by St. Luke’s Health Resources and integrated within Gordon. This brought services in Shelby, Crawford, and Monona Counties together with the existing Jackson service area.
In 2007 Synergy Center, a residential treatment facility for men and women located in Cherokee, Iowa, merged with Jackson Recovery.
In April of 2002, the name of the organization was changed from Gordon to Jackson Recovery Centers, in honor of the founders of the original Gordon, former Medical Director William Jackson and his late wife Marienne.
