Centers Against Abuse And Sexual Assault
The mission of the Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault (CAASA) is to eliminate personal, institutional and societal violence against individuals by empowering victim/survivors and providing supportive programs and services.
Description:
CAASA provides services for victims of domestic and sexual violence in Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Ida, Palo Alto, and Sac counties. These services include a 24 hour crisis line, crisis counseling and advocacy for adults and children, support groups for adults and children, shelter, medical and legal advocacy, school outreach and violence prevention programs, community education and information programs, and professional education.
History:
CAASA was initially organized in 1985. Client services began in 1986 as primarily a crisis line staffed by volunteers. Funding was identified and funded staff positions were established in 1986 as well. During this initial time CAASA served a four county area. In 2006, the CADA project that served Buena Vista, Cherokee, Ida and Sac counties requested to merge with CAASA. This merger was approved, creating an eight county service area of Buena Vista, Cherokee, Sac, Ida, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, and Palo Alto counties.
