Head Start
Head Start is a free school readiness and family support program focused on the needs of very low income families with children ages 3-5.
Description:
Our program provides 1/2 day preschool classroom programming for children ages 3-5. We provide transportation to and from the classroom. The children receive nutritious meals while in class. Head Start focuses on the physical, dental and mental health needs and social/emotional development of children along with their cognitive development to assure that they enter kindergarten prepared to succeed. At the same time, Head Start provides services, supports and referrals to parents to help them provide a supportive home for their families and to set goals and make progress toward greater economic self sufficiency.
History:
Our Head Start program has been providing services in this area for 43 years. It has always been funded directly by the Federal government and now is also funded by the state of MN. We current service 245 children/families at all times during our enrollment year - September through May.
