Western Community Action is a non-profit agency with the mission of eliminating poverty by empowering families and building responsive communities in Southwest MN.

Description:
Western Community Action's Free Tax Preparation sites are aimed at assisting customers with free tax preparation, EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) outreach, and connecting them with useful financial information and mainstream services. Relying on volunteers to make the Free Tax Preparation sites run, this program really involves the community in a "neighbor helping neighbor" kind of way. Assisting hundreds of taxpayers each year and helping them claim over $1 million dollars over the past two years has been an exciting and rewarding venture for our agency and our volunteers!

History:
Western Community Action was established in 1965 as a member of a national network of anti-poverty programs established by the Federal Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 by Lyndon Johnson. Since then, the agency has grown to employ over 100 people, and rely on the gifts and talents of thousands of volunteers.
