Women's Rural Advocacy Programs
The mission of the Women’s Rural Advocacy Programs is to provide supportive services including crisis intervention, advocacy and safe-housing. The priority population, work, and dedication is to provide services for women and their children victimized by domestic violence.
Description:
WRAP is dedicated to providing services for women and their children victimized by domestic violence. We are committed to bringing women's strengths together in creating empowerment where domestic violence exists, to help protect victims from further violence, and to educate communities and systems about the reality of violence in the home. The ultimate goal is to assist communities in planning and organizing to end domestic violence. It is the mission of WRAP to work for the major societal changes necessary to eliminate both personal and societal violence against all women and their children.
History:
WRAP is comprised of four Community Action Programs (CAP). WRAP- Lyon, located in Marshall, and WRAP-Yellow Medicine, located in Granite Falls, opened in 1994. WRAP-Redwood, located in Redwood Falls, and WRAP-Lincoln, located in Ivanhoe until 2004 and now located in Marshall, were both established in 1997. WRAP obtained its 501c3 non-profit status in 1998. Additionally, the Lyon/Lincoln County program provides domestic violence services for Murray County upon request by victims, law enforcement, or other agencies from that county area.
