PALSS provides case management, housing assistance, HIV counseling and testing, HIV prevention education and training, health advocacy, peer counseling, support groups, emergency food pantry and health education services.
History:
The first AIDS service organization in the state, PALSS was founded in 1985 in response to the growing epidemic and the lack of resources for persons living with HIV in South Carolina. PALSS was established with a mission to 1) provide practical and emotional support to persons with HIV disease, their families, friends and loved ones; 2) act as an advocacy and resource agency for HIV infected individuals and their loved ones; 3) provide education and support to health care and human service providers and professionals; 4) provide information to the public about Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), about the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), about transmission, prevention, and resources. PALSS is a comprehensive AIDS service organization in the service area that is inclusive of Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, Newberry, Sumter, Clarendon, Kershaw, Saluda and Lee counties. The facility is located in Richland County at 2638 Two Notch Road in Columbia, South Carolina.
