The American Cancer Society coordinates the Road to Recovery program-from recruitment, screening, and training of volunteer drivers to scheduling transportation pickups. The Society maintains specific standards for the responsibilities of these drivers. Understanding these guidelines will help both the patient and driver feel comfortable with the program.

Description:
Road to Recovery is a service offered by the American Cancer Society in which volunteer drivers provide cancer patients transportation to and from their scheduled medical appointments. Drivers donate their time and the use of their personal vehicles to help ensure that cancer patients get the lifesaving treatments they need. Lack of transportation sometimes leaves cancer patients with few options for completing their treatment schedules. Many patients need daily or weekly treatments over a period of months and simply have no way to get there. Although family and friends may be able to help, there are many times when they're not available. Road to Recovery provides transportation opitions for patients in this situation.
