The Epilepsy Foundation of South Carolina believes that people with seizures should be able to participate in all life experiences. Our mission is to prevent, control and cure epilepsy through research, education, advocacy, and services. We are a 501(c)(3) agency providing educational, vocational and outreach services to people with epilepsy, their families and their communities.

Description:
Educational programs are designed for school nurses, teachers, civic and community groups, and children to teach seizure first aid and to combat stigma and misunderstanding about epilepsy. We offer professional continuing education program in seizure recognition and management to school nurses, law enforcement officers and emergency management personnel.Educational videos, speakers, and presentations are available to interested organizations throughout the state.

Public Awareness Services are achieved through the Epilepsy Foundation’s quarterly newsletter, support groups, and workshops. These provide opportunities to discuss causes and treatments and share information about epilepsy.

Client Assistance provided by the Foundation can assist those in need of a professional or service agency. Advocacy services can intercede on the member’s behalf with private, state, and local agencies.

We provide quarterly newsletters, support groups, summer camp for children with epilepsy, and educational programs and seminars to designed to help people with seizures to participate in all life experiences.


History:
Our agency was first established as the Epilepsy Association of the Midlands in 1977 by a group of dedicated parents of children with epilepsy. We became the Epilepsy Foundation of South Carolina and embraced the mission of serving the entire state in 2001. We are an accredited affiliate of the Epilepsy Foundation of America.
