KINGS HARVEST VISION:
To serve the homeless and poor in Downtown Davenport.
To provide for the community by
meeting their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs.
To show them who Jesus is, through compassion and unconditional love.

Description:
Thank you for this opportunity to tell you about the ministry of King’s Harvest. King’s Harvest is located at 824 W. 3rd Street Davenport, on the corner of 3rd Street and Warren. Since it’s beginning, in 1996, the goal of this ministry has been to provide assistance to the poor, the homeless, and the shut-ins living in the Quad-Cities. We continually work to achieve this goal through many different methods of ministry.
One of our ministries is to provide free grocery giveaways every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month at 10:00am. At each giveaway, we hand out approximately 200 bags of groceries.
We serve a hot lunch on Wednesdays and Fridays from 12 until 1:00pm and we also serve breakfast on Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 10:00am to on average 160 people at our downtown Davenport building.
We make visits to individuals in the local jail and hospitals to encourage them during their difficult time, and offer any support we can.
We also currently provide individual assistance to those with special needs. This particular ministry covers a broad range of needs from offering sleeping rooms to recovering male addicts and alcoholics, to helping with individuals that have been evicted from their place of residence. This comes in the form of providing help with rental assistance, utility bills, gas vouchers, medications, bus passes……anything that constitutes an emergency need. We also assist with finding jobs, by empowering them with tools as simple as a newspaper; to helping them to fill out a job application. We also offer transportation for job interviews and appointments, as well as assist with grocery shopping.
We also have free pet food giveaways on Wednesday and Friday from 12:45 to 1:00pm and Saturday from 9:45- 10:00am. Along with this program we have a Pet Assistance Program to assist families with their pets, such as low cost spay/neuter programs to control the pet population, temporary housing for pets during times of inclement weather or if the owner is unable to care for the pet due to illness or hospitalization and permanent placement of pets as needed.

How you can get involved:
It is our sincerest hope to continue and grow this ministry. In order to do that there are many areas in which we could use assistance from other churches and individuals around the Quad Cities. Here are just a few we could use help with.
VOLUNTEERS FOR THE HOT MEALS: Breakfast and Hot Lunch duties range from cooking, cleaning, and serving food, to visiting with those who come in to eat. Breakfast volunteers need to be at the building by 8:30 AM. Those for Hot Lunches on Wednesday and Friday need to be in the building 11:00am. GROCERY/PET FOOD GIVEAWAY: Duties for the grocery/pet food giveaway are as follows: putting together bags, handing out bags, as well as delivering groceries to shut-ins. Grocery volunteers need to be downtown by 9:00am to begin bagging groceries. FRONT DESK ATTENDANT: We are looking for help as a front desk attendant, during the meal times. This person would need to greet people as they come in and direct them where they need to go. They would also need to take down any particular request for our “individual assistance” program and direct questions and needs to the proper person.
DRIVERS: We need people to help with picking up food donations from various restaurants and stores around the Quad Cities during the week. We have at least 1-2 donation locations every day of the week. We also need a driver with a van or truck to pick up food donations at the River Bend Food Pantry between 10:30-11:00am every Friday.
VOLUNTEERS FOR CLOTHING GIVEAWAY: We currently have our clothing ministry open Saturday mornings in the lower level of the building during breakfast time. We need volunteers to organize the clothing and coordinate handouts on Saturday mornings. Volunteers would need to be there at 9:00 a.m. We have requests regularly for clothing, particularly shoes and men's jeans, socks and underwear. Please contact Julie Huen at 563-340-397
VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR: We are looking for someone(s)to coordinate our many volunteers and also maintain records on our volunteers.
MAINTENANCE WORK: King’s Harvest also needs assistance with some light maintenance/custodial work.
LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR PROGRAM: Our hope is to get volunteers to “adopt” an individual by helping this person with certain needs to get back on their feet. Examples may be providing transportation to appointments, help with finding a job. This program will vary as each individuals needs varies.
PET ASSISTANCE VOLUNTEERS: Are in need of volunteers willing to assist the homeless/poor with the care of their pets especially housing for the pet during inclement weather.Especially need temporary housing for animals.
DONATIONS: King’s Harvest is always thankful for any type of donations. Here is a list of some immediate needs: coffee, coffee creamer, paper bowls, silverware, napkins, spray Pam, Men’s and Women’s shoes (no high heels), Men’s jeans,socks/underwear, towels and bedding supplies. We have recently opened an overnight over-flow shelter for anyone needing a place to sleep out of the cold. We need volunteers to help with this very important program.
