Agency Details:
Student Food Drive
To unite and empower area high school students in the commitment to feed the hungry and promote volunteerism.
Description:
The Student Food Drive organizes an annual competition among area high schools to see which school can collect the most food for the River Bend Foodbank. The Drive lasts 6 weeks. Over the past 23 years, students participating in the Student Food Drive have collected over 12 million pounds of food, valued at over $24 million!
History:
The Student Hunger Drive was founded in 1986 by Pete Pohlmann, then owner of Lujack's Northpark Auto Plaza. The program grew to the point of forming a separate 501(c)(3) organization with corporate sponsors and individual donations funding the annual effort. In 2007, America's Second Harvest and Tyson Foods took the Student Hunger Drive model national and we changed our name to the Student Food Drive. Student Food Drives are currently operating in 13 national markets. All food and money donated to our local Drive, stays local.
