The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Description:
The best part of volunteering for The Salvation Army is what it does for your heart -- your heart becomes filled with gratitude because it's a heart that cares. You will also meet new people and see old friends, and be able to witness them doing something good. And they will know that because of you, they were able to help their community too.

Your contribution of time standing a kettle is so very meaningful to the community because it helps to generate the funds we need to provide our people-helping-programs all year long.

The programs include the Family Service Center in downtown Davenport, serving homeless families, and also doing a meal site each night for the less fortunate. About 100 people, with over 50% of them children live at the shelter. And approximately 100 men, women and children are fed each night at the meal site.

We also run two Corps (churches) in town that provide social service assistance, character building programs for youth, and we are always ready in case disaster hits.

The men and women that work and volunteer for The Salvation Army have followed General William Booth's call -- "Others!" And we do our best to think of others' needs.

History:
The Salvation Army came to the Quad Cities in 1888, and has been serving needy people with the basics of life. We offer shelter, food, clothing and other basic neccessities of life.
