New Kingdom Trailriders provides therapeutic equine assisted programs for the educational and recreational benefit of physically, mentally, and/or emotionally challenged people in the Quad Cities.

Description:
NKT offers the opportunity for our riders to develop mentally, physically and socially in a non-clinical setting. 60-70 riders, ages three to adult, participate in weekly classes with an additional 150 riders involved in one day horse experience field trips known as the “Carrot Club”. Our association with the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) has enabled us to operate a program with premiere accreditation and qualified instructors. Over 100 volunteers, age 14 and up, including many from our area youth organizations such as 4H, dedicate countless hours to insure the success of our program.

History:
NKT was founded in 1984 by a group of Christian horse enthusiasts. Among the original group was Barbara Clauson. When the original group decided to disolve, Barb realized the need and importance of such an organization to the many disabled individuals who were benefiting from the rides. She then took the very small, backyard operation to the level it is today. Barb has been the Executive Director of NKT for 24 years but much more than that. She is a Certified Instructor and completely designs each program every year in tandem with OT assessments and our volunteers. Barb is the driving force behind NKT. NKT is proudly celebrating it's 25 year of service in 2009!
