Stroke Of Hope Club, Inc. - FL - Palm Beach And Martin Counties
It is the mission of the Stroke of Hope Club, Inc., to provide education, information and support to individuals and families affected by stroke. We provide services to all stroke victors, their families and friends, recognizing that no two strokes are the same and no two families coping with stroke do so in the same way.
Description:
The Stroke of Hope Club, Inc. is a 501 C-3 organization, founded in 1984. What makes us unique is that over 90% of our programs and services are provided by trained volunteers. These include: caregiver education, caregiver training, counseling, rehab buddies, the Aphasia Center, computer training, speech and language lab, lending library, support groups, a monthly newsletter, Hope Help Guides, and information and referral network. Our volunteers include "communication coaches", "computer training coaches", rehab buddy team members, caregiver coaches, and resource team members.
History:
The Stroke of Hope Club, Inc. was founded in 1984. We began by offering monthly support group meetings for stroke victors and caregivers. In 1988 we began our Peer Visitation program, and offered our first "Victor" conference. We were incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1991. We also held our first Stroke Conference for Healthcare Professionals that year. In 1994 we began our first Aphasia Group, meeting at a local hospital. In 1996 we established a second Aphasia Group at another local hospital. We began printing our "Hope Help Guides" in 1996. That year we received our first grant to continue printing the Hope Help Guides, and to purchase much needed supplies. Since 2001, we have been providing programs for Caregivers of stroke "victors" through funding from Title IIIE, the Older Americans Act. In 2002 we opened our first office in North Palm Beach. In 2003 we were name the Outstanding Service Provider by the Area Agency on Aging, which is responsible for a 5 county area. In 2005 our website was established: www.strokeofhope.com. In 2006 we received the Caregiver Education award from MetLife for our Caregiver Manual program. In 2007, one of our volunteers was selected as a silver honoree for the MetLife Older Volunteers Enrich America Award. The Aphasia Center at the Stroke of Hope Club, Inc. opened in 2007. In 2009 we moved to a larger office and our current location in Palm Beach Gardens.
