The goals of the Division of Senior Services are to administer to seniors a comprehensive range of programs that provide social and emotional well being, encourage independence, and support the community's seniors and their caregivers with dignity and choice.
Description:
The Division of Senior Services (DOSS) provides a variety of quality services to elder residents of Palm Beach County. DOSS operates three senior centers, located at 5217 Northlake Blvd, Palm Beach Gardens, 3680 Lakeworth Road, Lakeworth, and 2916 State Road 15, Belle Glade. The senior centers offer a variety of activity and meals which are often coordinated by volunteers. DOSS also operates two adult day care centers located at 3680 Lakeworth Road, Lakeworth, and 5217 Northlake Blvd, Palm Beach Gardens. With the assistance of volunteers, each adult day care plans activities and provides lunch for the functionally limited senior. The Division of Senior Services operates 28 congregate meal sites, where hot lunch or dinner is served daily, and provides a "Meals on Wheels" program to homebound clients. Volunteers are able to enter the "Friendly Visitor/Telephone Program." DOSS also provides the following in-home and other services such as: personal care, emergency alert, home energy assistance program, counseling and other services. History:
The Department of Community Services extends administrative supervision for programs that provide services to Palm Beach County residents in need. In pursuit of the mission, the Department provides an array of services. The Division of Senior Services (DOSS) is under the auspices of the Community Services Department.
The Division of Senior Services has been serving senior citizens since 1981. DOSS’s social workers, outreach workers, meal site managers and senior center and adult day care staff serve thousands of senior clients annually. DOSS administers a broad range of home and community based services that focus on the needs of senior citizens. DOSS provides information and assistance to aid seniors sixty (60) years of age or older and their families.
The Division of Senior Services used a variety of funding sources to provide services to clients. The funds were granted by the Area Agency on Aging, Community Care for the Elderly, Home Care for the Elderly, Older Americans Act, Title C1, C2 and IIIB.
DOSS consists of sixty-seven (67) employees who include social workers, outreach workers, a nutritional coordinator, site managers, community center managers, management and fiscal staff. DOSS is a lead agency for services in the northern part of the County (Hypoluxo Road North to Tequesta and West to the Belle Glade area) that provides quality, state-of-the-art services to our special senior population.
