Adopt-A-Family is dedicated to restoring families in crisis to stability and self-sufficiency by providing access to all-encompassing services to families and their children.
Description:
Services include short term assistance through Project Uplift with rent and utilities; financial assistance through the adopter program for up to one year for families with a major medical illness or single parents who are trying to go to school full time and working but still have a financial shortfall; Project SAFE provides housing and support services to homeless families with children; Project GROW is an after-school/out-of-school program for children who are homeless or from low-income families; Service Enriched Housing provides housing for low-income families who are working to repair their credit or save money for a down payment to purchase a home; Homeless Intervention Program assists families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless to secure permanent housing; Community Land Trust provides affordable housing options for low-income families; and the agency also provides a food pantry and clothing closet.
History:
Adopt-A-Family was founded in 1983 by three local women who recognized the need to help families who were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless due to a financial reversal, illness, divorce, death or other extenuating circumstances. The agency was incorporated as a 501 (c)(3)organization in 1984.
Adopt-A-Family is a local, Palm Beach County organization that utilizes a "whole-istic" approach by providing all-encompassing services designed to empower families, and offer solutions for self-sufficiency through all-inclusive educational programs.
Families with children served by Adopt-A-Family fall into the following categories: single parents who receive no child support; the working poor who do not earn enough money to support their families and may be at risk of becoming homeless; homeless children and their families; and families facing major medical illness.
