Our mission statement is to collect, preserve, interpret and promote the history of Florida, particularly emphasizing the Southeast region and the area where the Loxahatchee River meets the Jupiter Inlet.

Description:
The Loxahatchee River Historical Society, a nonprofit organization located in Jupiter, Florida, is a unique cultural and educational institution which operates the DuBois Pioneer Home, Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse, and the Loxahatchee River Historical Museum. The Society presents exhibits, free lecture series, special events, and a summer history camp as well as public tours of its three sites. Volunteers play a vital role in our ability to provide the public with these services. The Docent/Volunteer Organization (DOOR) meets once a month.

History:
Several people interested in preserving the pioneer history of the northern region of Palm Beach County founded the Loxahatchee Historical Society in 1971. This society was interested in collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history along the Loxahatchee River and the Jupiter Inlet. In 1988, construction began for a facility that would house its permanent collection and traveling exhibits in Jupiter at Burt Reynolds Park. In 1990, the building was completed and in 1996 the society changed its name to the Florida History Center & Museum to reflect its growing collection. In 2002, the Museum name changed again to the Loxahatchee River Historical Museum.
During the museum's tenure, acquisition of the 1898 DuBois Pioneer home and the 1892 Tindall home occurred in 1977 and in 1995, respectively. In 1994, the museum opened the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Visitor Center and began offering tours to the top. In 2000, the museum completed restoration of the 1860 Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse to its original color. In 2002, the museum changed its name back to its original namesake, the Loxahatchee River Historical Society.
