WHAT IS GLEANING? This is a traditional way of collecting crops from farmers' fields that have already been mechanically harvested or on fields where it is not economically profitable to harvest.
Gleaning is one creative way to help reduce hunger in America. It supplements Federal food assistance programs by making better use of a food source that already exists.

WHERE DOES THE FOOD GO? Food goes to the people who need it. Gleaned produce is donated to scores of agencies that have a proven record of working with the hungry. Locally, the majority of the produce will go to the daily bread food bank. Within 24-48 hours of picking, needy people are usually eating the produce.

WHO OPERATES THE PROGRAM? The program is operated by C.R.O.S. Ministries and funded by the United Way thus, making the Gleaning network a reality in South Florida.

WHEN ARE GLEANERS NEEDED AND WHERE? Gleaners are needed every Saturday beginning in the middle of October through the beginning of May. Currently all gleaning is being performed in Belle Glade. The farm location will be provided to gleaners 48 hours prior to the project. Gleaning opportunities are available on Saturdays only.
