Groundwork Gary
The mission of Groundwork Gary is to enhance the physical environment of Gary by involving and utilizing the best talents of Gary citizens to reclaim, enhance, develop and maintain urban greenspace and reuse of brownfields, while raising civic awareness and appreciation of the benefits of such spaces to all.
History:
Groundwork is an international network that helps communities build upon their existing assets to eliminate environmental poverty and become vibrant, healthy and safe places. Groundwork believes that people, places and prosperity are linked and works with partners to develop projects which bring benefits to all three areas.
Groundwork began in the United Kingdom by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in 1981 to rebuild Britain's bypassed urban communities through community led strategies. There are nearly fifty Groundwork Trusts in UK as well as efforts in Central and Eastern Europe and Japan.
