The mission of PTLEA is to foster the appreciation of music by providing live entertainment available to everyone at minimal cost, and to contribute to music education in the Portage Township schools by hosting students at concerts and by sponsoring periodic workshops for students.
Description:
PTLEA sponsors four live concerts each concert season from September through May at Portage High School East Auditorium, contracting internationally renowned and award-winning musicians, vocalists, dance troupes and other performing artists. PTLEA shares reciprocity with four other concert associations at Munster, Valparaiso, Michigan City and LaPorte, in which all associations may attend all concerts at each venue for the price of a single season ticket -- a total of about 20 shows each season. Season tickets are $40/adult, $10/student, $100 for two parents and all children in the family, and $60 for a single parent and all children in the family.
PTLEA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, and is supported by season ticket sales, single admissions, Patron of the Arts donations, "Sponsor a Student" Program (businesses or individuals sponsor 12 students from each Portage Township school at each concert), and proceeds from sales of advertisements in our annual yearbook.
History:
PTLEA (formerly Portage Township Community Concert Association) began in 1989 through the efforts of a group of residents interested in offering live entertainment at a low cost in the Portage Township community. Russell A. Willis was our charter Board President, and served on the board until his death in 2002. The Association is one of approximately 250 associations in the U.S.
