LP CO TRIAD LIFESAVER PROJECT

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on June 26, 2009

The LaPorte County TRIAD Lifesaver Project is offering LaPorte County residents with a tendency to wander, young and old, an opportunity to remain safer in their home environment and allowing their families’ a little peace of mind while keeping them at home and out of facilities.

Project Lifesaver currently is coordinating 6 participants who have been assessed, accepted, and are wearing the radio-signal bracelet. These bracelets require that their batteries be changed once a month. Currently, there are only 4 people who are trained to do the initial assessment and they must be available to address new and emergency participants.

Therefore, for Project Lifesaver to continue to maintain quality service to LaPorte County while expanding coverage to all LaPorte County Communities, the need for additional volunteers has become critical.

Project Lifesaver needs the following assistance from the Community:

  • Volunteers trained or experienced in doing initial assessments of residents with a wandering spirit. The assessment takes only an hour and a half, and hopefully, no more than one a month would be required for each assessor. (4 hour training by law enforcement & TRIAD is a requirement)

  • Volunteers to replace batteries in bracelets once a month, requiring only about 1 hour for each participant, including travel. (1 hour on the job training is required)
With a minimum time commitment, a volunteer can be certain of making a huge difference in assisting these less fortunate residents of the community through participating in the LaPorte County TRIAD Lifesaver Project.

VOLUNTEERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND ONE 4-5 TRAINING COURSE BY THE LAPORTE CO SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND ONE 4 HOUR ASSESSMENT TRAINING BY LAPORTE CO TRIAD.

This opportunity is sponsored by: RSVP/CATHOLIC CHARITIES Of LaPorte/Starke Co.
