Will you be entering 9th through 12th grade …


… then why not join the Youth Volunteer Team at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium! As a Youth Volunteer Team Member you will increase and share your knowledge of animals, conservation and the environment while gaining valuable volunteer experience in a zoo and aquarium setting.

Youth Volunteer Team members will have the opportunity to work in one of two areas:

Youth Volunteer Interpreters:

Educate the public on a variety of animal, conservation and environmental issues
Guide activities in animal exhibit areas to encourage children to care about animals

Explore the Aquariums with visitors and share information about local beaches and the animals that live there

Educate visitors by talking to them about the animals in our exhibit areas
Interact with visitors of all ages in a fun and educational setting

Youth Volunteer Camp Assistants:

Work with Summer Camp staff to offer an exciting learning opportunity to children ages 4 to 12

Set up and provide instruction with crafts, activities and games

Help Summer Camp staff to guide campers around zoo grounds while observing animals, attending keeper talks, and going on behind-the-scenes tours
Interact with summer campers in a fun and educational setting

CURRENTLY WE DO NOT HAVE OPENING FOR OUR YOUTH VOLUNTEER TEAM.

APPLICATIONS FOR SUMMER 2010 YOUTH VOLUNTEER TEAM WILL BE AVAILABLE JANUARY 2010.

To join the team, just review the Requirements, fill out the application, supply a reference, and complete a financial aid application if needed.

Applications will be available January 2010 for summer 2010 team.

Following review of applications, applicants will be required to attend one group interview and an individual interview. Final selection will be based on the application materials, group interview, and the individual interview.

Volunteers will be required to attend all scheduled trainings. More information about requirements can be found at www.pdza.org.
