Camp Fire USA Central Coast Council
Camp Fire USA Central Coast Council builds caring, confident youth and future leaders. Our Council’s vision is to provide a safe, fun atmosphere for children to grow in . . . a place where they can build lasting friendships with other children and adults, where they can learn leadership skills and give service, a good place for children to belong. We firmly believe that all children are at risk to some degree and that they all need positive outside influences to help them grow and develop into productive adults. Camp Fire USA is in the business of building a strong tomorrow, through the youth of today.
Description:
Camp Fire USA Central Coast Council offers after-school club and summer camp experiences to boys and girls in pre-school through age 21 in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties. Program activities are structured around 5 subject-area “Trails”: Knowing Me; Family and Community; Creativity; the Environment; and the Future. Camp Fire USA programs are inclusive and family-centered, building real skills and providing real-life adventure. Over the past 6 years, our local Council has served an average of 900 boys and girls annually in all of our various programs.
History:
Camp Fire Girls was founded by Dr. & Mrs. Gulick in 1910, as a way for teenage girls to participate in outdoor activities and new challenges. In 1975, Camp Fire began including boys in all programs. Our local Council is the product of a 1990 merger between four Councils, the oldest of which started in Santa Maria in 1923, and covers Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties.
