The Santa Barbara Audubon Society educates members of our community about birds and their habitats, advocates responsible legislation and public policies which help preserve our natural resources, and administers science-based projects using birds as indicators of environmental health. By focusing on birds and other wildlife, Santa Barbara Audubon works to conserve and restore ecosystems for the benefit of humanity and biological diversity. With your help we can create a culture of conservation to help preserve the ecological integrity of the world.
Description:
SB Audubon educates youth about birds of prey and their habitats with live birds that cannot live in the wild, in school presentations and programs at the Museum of Natural History. We have Snowy Plover docents at the Coal Oil Point Reserve, protecting threatened and endangered shorebirds and educating beach-goers how to share the beach. We implement habitat restoration at Coal Oil Point Reserve to improve bird and wildlife habitat. We advocate for good public policy and minimizing impacts to natural resources of community development.
History:
Santa Barbara Audubon incorporated in 1963. We are a non-profit agency operated by volunteers to implement our mission of protecting birds and other wildlife, and educating people about wildlife. Last year volunteers contributed over 9000 hours to our programs and projects.
