The Gatekeeper Program
The Gatekeeper Program is a proactive program designed to help prevent elder abuse and self neglect in our community. The program increases public awareness of the needs of the vulnerable elderly before a crisis occurs. Upon identification of a frail senior, a trained Gatekeeper volunteer makes one phone call which initiates the individual’s assessment and a variety of in home supportive services. This keeps at-risk seniors in their own homes, and prevents premature nursing home placement. Gatekeepers "open the gates" between isolated seniors and sources of assistance. Description:
