Food Pantry Assistant

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on June 30, 2009

You would be trained to help in our food pantry, which serves local families and individuals who are affected by HIV/AIDS. Pantry hours are Tues., 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Thurs., 4 - 7 p.m., and Friday 10 - 1:30 p.m. Normally, you would only be helping one time per week. Your job would be to assist clients in picking out their groceries and helping them load their bags into their vehicle. We have several long time volunteers in this part of our program and they seem to truly enjoy this direct contact with our clients.

As a volunteer for this position, you would need to be able to comfortably lift grocery bags and load them into vehicles. Most important, you need to be nonjudgmental and caring. If you're friendly and enjoy helping people in a direct way, this could be for you.

Training is mostly informal but you would be required to attend occasional trainings (2x year).
