 We offer dinner and training for all child care volunteers. These are the the list of classes we need volunteers in. Preferred Qualifications
- 18 years or older
- Associate Arts Degree in Early Childhood Development or High School Diploma or two years’ experience working with children birth - 8 years
- Experience with multi-challenged, low income families
- Knowledge of child development and positive parenting techniques
- Able to identify abuse or neglect in children
- Able to organize tasks and work flexible hours
- Able to problem-solve and exhibit good judgment
- Valid WA driver’s license and use of reliable insured vehicle
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds and to stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl to observe and participate in activities
- Able to communicate effectively
- One year commitment
Volunteering is contingent upon receiving clearance from Washington State Patrol and Washington Department of Social and Health Services. Responsibilities
- Supervise children in a safe, supportive, and developmentally appropriate manner
- Demonstrate effective parenting techniques including the following: providing a consistent routine; carrying out age-appropriate activities; practicing child-directed play; respecting the children and their personal space; providing consistent positive discipline and affirming feelings
- Attend training on child development and Incredible Years (parenting class) curriculum
- Model positive guidance techniques such as distraction and redirection, positive reinforcement, and planned ignoring
- Demonstrate positive health habits and physical care of children
- Follow agency guidelines for hygiene protocol for hand and face washing, diaper or clothes changing, food handling, etc.
- Model healthy nutrition principals and food-handling techniques
- Observe children for signs of abuse or neglect and follow agency protocol for reporting
- Communicate with parents in a supportive manner about issues related to the care or behavior of their children, demonstrating a commitment to family support principles
- Communicate with other members of the program team
- Model and reinforce the parenting technique focus for each session
- Set up and clean up of Children’s Room, including but not limited to preparation of snacks, laundry and sanitation of toys
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Our main office is a half-mile west of Forest Park, just off Mukilteo Boulevard. From I-5, take Exit 192 (Mukilteo); off the exit ramp, head west on 41st Street; continue through two traffic lights, past Forest Park (the street name changes to Mukilteo Blvd.); keep going up the hill, and take a left at the next light (Dogwood Drive). Our building is on the right side of the street, about 100 yards after the turn.
