Programs and services support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s mission – to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis. The NMSS is committed to empower people with MS to live as independently as possible, and to the maximum of their capabilities, with the least restrictive environment. We work to provide a broad spectrum of programs to better the quantity of life for people affected by multiple sclerosis and their families. Programs and services are accessible from anywhere in Alaska at no cost through the use of 1 800 call in telephone numbers and programming broadcast over the internet. Informational materials are provided at no cost to the public. There is no charge for equipment loan or lending library materials. The shipping cost and return-postage is paid for by the NMSS. Our programs, services, and activities are designed to: •Promote and support knowledge, health, and independence; •Provide information, education, and emotional support to help people with MS and their families help themselves; •Help people gain access to community resources; •Stimulate changes in the community and/or the development of new community resources/services beneficial to people affected by MS; and •Fill gaps in the community resources.
