Volunteer Opportunity Details:
| Last updated on November 25, 2008 |
SAGA and the United Way of Southeast Alaska are partnering in an effort to aid low income households in the Juneau area. Our program sends at least two individuals, who have completed a thorough background check, to inspect low-income homes of the elderly and/or disabled in order to discover how individual households can cut their energy use. The team may install devices such as CFL bulbs, weather stripping, or sink aerators, and give helpful hints such as how to turn down a water heater. With dropping temperatures, weatherizing is becoming a bigger issue for many homes. EELS is hoping to gather more supplies and re-energize this energy campaign. SAGA will be utilizing VISTA and AMERICORPS volunteers that are currently in Juneau but they are soliciting more volunteers from the area.
