Emergency Services trains and supports volunteers to effectively provide a variety of Red Cross services to people affected by a disaster within our chapter, state, region, or anywhere in the nation. Depending on their interests and availability, Disaster Services volunteers can serve in one or more of three broad areas: *Disaster Action Teams (DAT) - respond to residential fires and other limited disasters within our chapter's jurisdiction. * Activity Teams - respond to local, state and regional disasters within a specific function (Mass Care, Family Services, Disaster Assessment, Logistics, Health Services.) * National Disaster Responders - trained, experienced volunteers respond within 1-3 specialized activities in large disasters anywhere in the United States. Leadership opportunities for those qualified. As an Emergency Services volunteer, you will be trained in all facets of disaster assistance to help your neighbors prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. Disaster victims are never charged. Red Cross assistance is always given free, regardless of income or financial situation. This assistance is provided by donations from the public. In order to become a registered volunteer, you must attend a New Volunteer Orientation, have an interview, sign and return all required paperwork, and pass a background check if age 18 or over. To be a Disaster Services volunteer, you must be 18 years of age or older and willing to make commitment to position, be in good health and willing to work hard. Must be able to attend required training classes as well as special training sessions in the latest disaster techniques and procedures, regular meetings, and drills. Must be able to follow instructions to promote a safe and health work environment. Local Disaster Action Team Volunteers (DAT) must be available to be "on call" evenings and/or daytime and weekends - we will work with you to determine a mutually convenient schedule. This opportunity is sponsored by: American Red Cross - Connecticut Chapter
