Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team (MCREST)

A Macomb County non-profit agency consisting of a center for intake, assessment, referral, and support for the homeless, including emergency shelter within area host Churches, a safe haven and an opportunity to choose a path that can enable them to become self-sufficient.

Description:
We host up to 60 'guests' who are homeless, men, women and children in over 85 churches throughout Macomb County who open their churches and their hearts to shelter them for 7 days, feed them 3 meals a day, transport and do laundry as available and provide a listening heart. There are a number of smaller churches that are in need of a few extra hands. Some duties would require training but not most. Volunteers are to treat our guests with respect and kindness knowing they too are special. Volunteers must register through our website.

History:
MCREST started in 1988 with just 12 churches and a volunteer staff. Our paid staff now numbers 11 and we have over 7500 volunteers through the churches. We are always in need of volunteers who are 18 or older.
