History:
Madison Community Resource Center (MCRC) was established in November 2002 and received the status of non-profit 501 © (3) in April 2003, as a result of the endeavors of the Executive Director Phyllis Edwards. Ms. Edwards, a social worker, wanted to do more for the community that served as host to her church so she used her skills and knowledge to establish a non-profit center to begin the process of revitalizing a disenfranchised community. Her pastor Elder James Madison Johnson and church provided the necessary support and initial funding to get the center started. She visualized an improvement in the quality of life for the residents in the area bound by West Grand Boulevard to the west; Jefferies Freeway to the east; I-94 to the north and West Warren to the south. Ms. Edwards espouses the idea that urban communities can no longer afford to wait for local governments to decide its fate, rather a community must use its resources (human and financial) to begin to rebuild and reinvest in itself.
