Arbor Hospice - Downriver Branch

The mission of Arbor Hospice is to give comfort, assurance and care to families and patients who have life-limiting illnesses, and to educate and nurture others in this care.

Description:
We provide hospice care to seriously ill patients and their families throughout southeastern Michigan. Care is provided by a team of trained caregivers in patient homes, hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and in our 26-bed Arbor Hospice Residence in Ann Arbor.

We care for people of all ages - from infants to the elderly. With offices in Ann Arbor, Woodhaven and Plymouth. Our services extend to a seven-county area.

Arbor Hospice is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

History:
In 1984, Mary Lindquist, a registered nurse, founded Personalized Nursing Service (PNS), a private, not-for-profit organization designed to provide first-rate care for terminally ill individuals and their families. The agency operated out of Mary's home and consisted of three nurses, a book keeper and a community-based Board of Directors.
In 1988, after State and Federal licensure requirements were met, PNS became a Medicare-certified hospice. By 1989, Arbor Hospice became part of Personalized Nursing Service's name to indicate the agency's certification as a hospice organization and to increase awareness of its services to the community.
Arbor Hospice then developed and constructed Michigan's first licensed Hospice Residence to supplement the home-based care the agency provides. It developed an expansive bereavement program, which serves not only Arbor Hospice families, but all members of the community.
Today with our 26 bed residence in Ann Arbor and offices in Ann Arbor, Woodhaven and Plymouth. Arbor Hospice employs 200 individuals and has cared for over 10,000 patients and their families. Despite our growth, our goal remains the same -- provide the highest level of care to enable people to complete their lives with grace, dignity and comfort.
