The Center is an unified complex of human services and community programs designed to meet the social, physical and educational needs of Northeast Detroit residents.

Description:
The Center at 6 mile and Gratiot on Detroit's eastside serves as a community center.The Center is utilized by ninety seven (97) organizations and groups providing services to the neighborhoods and residents of Northeast Detroit. The Center is open seven days a week, operating Monday thru Friday from 6:30 am to 10 pm and weekends, 8 am to 5 pm. Mission Partners (tenants) at the center include: Coleman Young Foundation, University of Phoenix,NSO - Youth Initiatives Project, YMCA Minority Achievers, UCF Mt. Zion Head Start,Skillman Foundation Good Neighborhood Initiative, Northeast Guidance Center, Connecting Families Program, Project Transition Housing, Detroit Public Schools Adult Education, Center Technology and Computer Center, Adult Education Classes, HSTA, Academy of Warren, College for Creative Studies, The Employment Institute, Mosaic Youth Theater, The MAN Network, New Convenant Peace Ministries,ThinkDetroit/PAL, Jabari's Karate Academy,Our Children Count, Detroit Hurricanes, Youth on Edge of Greatness, Citywide Poets,Detroit Head Start Fatherhood Initiative and Narcotics Anonymous groups.


History:
Matrix Human Services, formerly the League of Catholic Women, was founded in 1906. In 1997 the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church disbanded and sold the property and four (4) building to Matrix Human Services for $1.

Today The Center has a strong Arts program for young people, Monday thru Saturday. There are over 20 children and youth programs that provide services to the community.

We are one of two DPS Adult Education sites on the eastside. Each year over 350 adults enroll in classes to obtain their GED.

Matrix Human Services is working with its Mission Partners to redevelop the Osborn community and improve the quality of life for families.

 just wanted to comment that Mt. Zion was my church and I hope that the buildings are being put to good use. It was heartbreaking to leave in 1997 as my family had been members of Mr. Zion Church since the early 20's.
