The mission of AIHFS is to help ensure the survival of Native families and individuals by providing acceptable quality health care and by supporting the healing process. We encourage, educate and empower our clients as they seek and maintain wellness, and as they enhance the quality of their lives. We facilitate the quality and accessibility of comprehensive health care for the Native American community.

Description:
AIHFS is one of 34 federally funded urban Indian health clinics in the U.S. We provide a comprehensive health program in a culturally competent environment. Our services include ambulatory medical care, mental health services, drug prevention, and traditional healing practices. We offer outreach to our diverse and widely dispersed clientele. We utilize many local and national spiritual leaders and elders at our community gatherings, health fairs and traditional ceremonies; we combine Native spiritual healing with prayer and traditional Indian medical practices in our healing efforts.

History:
We were first established in 1986 and we have had a continuous, effective presence in southeast Michigan for almost 20 years. We serve the "hidden" 1% of the population of the seven county statistical area of the Detroit, Michigan. We offer primary health care services, with some support from federal grants, and local support.
