About GiftMatch You want to give back - but you don't know how. Like thousands of Metro Detroiters, you may want to help, but you don't know where to turn. That is why United Way for Southeastern Michigan (UWSEM) has developed our online matching system, GiftMatch. Whether you have large or small items to give - we'll connect you to the agencies and people who need your help. GiftMatch is fun and easy to use! »Post an item for donation How does GiftMatch work for donors? GiftMatch allows you to donate by either browsing current agency needs or submitting items our services you would like to donate. Browse Agency Needs - View items needed by nonprofit organizations to see if an item or service you would like to donate is currently needed.
- Once you have found an agency in need of the item(s) you wish to donoate, email them via GiftMatch and let them know you would like to make a donation.
- staff member from the organization will contact you to discuss details of your donation, including pick up or delivery.

Submit Items/Services You Would Like to Donate - Post an item for donation by following our easy-to-use online directions.
- Nonprofit organizations registered with this site will receive weekly updates of available donations.
- Generally, UWSEM does not have the space to accept in-kind donations. GiftMatch serves only as a virtual clearinghouse.
- Once your posted item has been donated you will need to remove it from the GiftMatch site. The GiftMatch system will generate an automatic email reminder.

Claiming a tax deduction? After an item has been successfully donated, you may request a letter of receipt from the nonprofit organization. Some organizations may not be approved by the IRS for deductibility, so it's a good idea to ask before you donate. Be sure you're doing the right thing, check out what the IRS has to say.
- You can deduct your contributions only if you make them to a qualified organization. IRS Publication 526
