Volunteers are needed in the following areas:

- A brief training session for Course Marshals will be held at the Strategic Staffing Solutions office at 645 Griswold Street, Suite 2900 in Detroit on Monday, August 18th at 4:00 p.m.
T-Shirt table
- Help remove t-shirts from boxes
- Fold t-shirts and group on tables according to size
- Keep t-shirt tables neat by periodically re-folding and re-stacking
- Runner’s bib will indicate what size t-shirt they need
(S - small, M - medium, L – large, XL – extra large, XXL – 2X large, N – no shirt with registration)
- Give runners a t-shirt in their size
- Put a line through the size code on their bib to indicate they received their t-shirt
- Box up extra t-shirts at the end of the event
T-shirt Hold Process
If a runner comes to the t-shirt table (before or after the race) and asks if we can hold their shirt for them to pick up later that evening:
-
Get a t-shirt in their size according to the code on the bib (see above for code)
-
Put t-shirt in a envelop (large envelops will be available at the t-shirt table)
-
Mark the envelope with the runner’s last name and bib number
-
File envelope (with t-shirt in it) with others on hold in alphabetical order by the runner’s last name
(a box will be on hand to hold t-shirt on hold)
When a runner comes to collect a t-shirt on hold:
- Ask for last name and bib number
- Look through box holding envelopes with t-shirt (should be in alphabetical order by last name but check through whole box if necessary) – confirm both last name and bib number match (we may have multiple people with the same last name)
- Put a line through the size code on their bib to indicate they received their t-shirt
Registration Assistance
- Be in the area where runners are filling out forms and standing in-line to get registered
- Greet runners as they enter the registration area
- Assist runners with questions about filling out registration forms
- Assist runners (when requested) to complete the forms for them
- Make sure runners in line for registration already have their registration form filled out
- If a runner is in line with an incomplete registration form, politely request that they step over to one of the empty tables to complete the form
- Make sure empty tables have pens and registration form on them for the runners
- Monitor registration traffic to make sure it moves smoothly in the right direction
Restrooms
- Help get restrooms ready before event begins by checking/filling paper towel, toilet paper, hand soap, sanitizer and Kleenex
- Check restrooms every ½ hour to see if additional supplies are needed. Contact person will be established to provide additional supplies as needed
- During regular checks of the restroom also pick-up any trash on the floor and remove and alert contact person when trash receptacles are full
- Notify contact person if any issues arise with restrooms (i.e. broken fixtures)

- Separate pizzas by type / toppings
- Help participants identify the type of pizza they want

- Check tubs regularly (i.e. on the 1/2hour) to make sure pop and water are still stocked
- Replace ice as it melts
- Help empty tubs of pop, water, and ice at the end of the event
Chip collection
- Will be provided scissors for this task
- Stand behind finish line and after runners finish offer to help them remove their timing chip
- Carefully cut chip from runners’ shoes – cutting the plastic zip tie (if chip is laced in the runners shoe, ask the runner to unlace their shoe)
- Collect chips in bags/buckets provided
- Look around for runners leaving the finish area who might still have their chips. Politely stop them and ask if you can help them remove their chip
- Turn in all collected chips to a designated person after the event
Remember this is an evening race on Tuesday, August 26th with a 6:15pm start time (5:45pm for the fun walk).
Little Caesars is providing pizza, we'll have ice cream from Ben and Jerry's and a bomb pop truck for those who cannot eat dairy. Bronx our favorite 4 legged Wayne county deputy will be on hand. Bronx is a horse of the mounted unit that Paul and Cindy have adopted.
With all that is new, there are still some very familiar things..... Dr. BB will be our DJ, photographers will capture our memorable moments, beverages will be on hand and most of all..... we need you.
There is plenty to do while having fun at the Grand Prix Shakedown.... and we need your help to make this happen.
