Junior Achievement of New Mexico Inc. is the state’s largest organization dedicated to teaching young people about the “economics of life.” Through a dedicated volunteer network, Junior Achievement of New Mexico provides in-school and after-school programs for students in grades K-12

Description:
JA offers educational programs that focus on seven key content areas: business, citizenship, economics, entrepreneurship, ethics/character, financial literacy, and career development. Annually more than 15,000 students in New Mexico are served by multiple operations across the state. Junior Achievement of New Mexico is committed to serving communities most in need. The JA Hispanic Initiative hopes to affect the following immediate student outcomes:
• Students will learn about 7 critical content areas: financial literacy, workforce readiness, business, economics, citizenship, entrepreneurship and ethics.
• Students will understand the importance of education to their future success.
• Students will build skills in teamwork, decision-making and interpersonal effectiveness.
• Students will become aware of post-secondary education and career opportunities.
• Students will learn about what it takes to be successful beyond the classroom from Hispanic role models.
• Students will learn how to connect what they learn from JA programming to their families and communities

History:
Junior Achievement was founded in 1919 by Theodore Vail, president of American Telephone & Telegraph; Horace Moses, president of Strathmore Paper Co.; and Senator Murray Crane of Massachusetts. Its first program, JA Company Program, was offered to high school students on an after-school basis. In 1975, the organization entered the classroom with the introduction of Project Business for the middle grades. Over the last 30 years, JA has expanded its activities and broadened its scope to include in-school and after-school students.
