Las Cruces Association Of Educational Retirees

LCAER seeks to improve the status of educational retirees by promoting passage of beneficial legislation, affording opportunities for united action in solving shared problems, cooperating with other groups and organizations having similar goals and interests at local, state, and national levels and by encouraging educational retirees to use their talents, training and experience to further the educational, social, civic and spiritual growth in the world around us.

History:
The Las Cruces Association of Educational Retirees (LCAER) was organized as the Dona Ana County Retired Educational Employees Association June 4, 1965. There were 13 founders: 7 from New Mexico State University and 6 from public schools.

The Association met twice yearly, fall and spring, until membership grew. The number of meetings per year increased to four then to five in 1971, and to nine in 1977.

Different school cafeterias sufficed as meeting places until 1974 when the public schools’ conference rooms began to be used. In 1977 meetings were moved to the Munson Senior Citizens Center.
