ACTion Programs For Animals (APA)
Our organization is an animal-welfare charity that strives to help people and their pets live better lives together. Our objectives are:
- Positive humane outreach and education;
- Assistance for pets and guardians in times of need;
- Programs that target our biggest challenges;
- Services and support that help people do the right thing by their animals.
Description:
Our pilot program is a pet food bank that we started in June 2009. We have future goals as well; we want to provide services and support that make it easier for people to do the right thing by their animals.
Future projects may include:
- Low-cost veterinary services;
- Low-cost grooming services;
- Help mending or building fences to get dogs off of chains;
- Providing big-ticket pet care items, such as dog houses, kennels, etc.
History:
APA is a new organization in Dona Ana County. We got our nonprofit status in May 2009. To date, our pet food bank has distributed more than 22,000 pounds of food (about 11 tons) to hundreds of families. We also distribute animal-welfare information and advice and ask pet food bank recipients to give back to the community.
