The mission of Families & Youth, Inc. is to promote a safer, healthier community by assisting children and families in strengthening their relationships, preserving the family unit, establishing community partnerships, and enhancing the availability of human resources.
Description:
With a staff of 200 full and part-time staff, FYI provides a variety of programs to the community. These programs cover the spectrum from prevention and education to intervention and treatment. FYI is a major provider of social services for youth and their families in the Las Cruces area. Their purpose is to develop and implement prevention, intervention, and treatment services to children and their families in a responsive, coordinated, timely, and equitable manner.
History:
Families & Youth, Inc. (FYI) is a non-profit organization founded on April 1, 1977, as a pilot project, Children in Need of Supervision. It became incorporated as CHINS, Inc. on October 1, 1979. The agency changed its name from CHINS, Inc. to Families & Youth, Inc. in October 1987. Jose V. Frietze has served as the director from the agency's inception to the present.
