The YWCA Credit Counseling and Homeownership Center is designed to assist individuals and families who are contemplating home ownership.
The purpose of the YWCA Credit Counseling and Home Ownership Center is to provide professional consumer credit and financial education to all segments of the community in order to facilitate the economic empowerment of women, girls, and the entire community of this YWCA region.
Our Mission is to provide the best non-profit community service dedicated to delivering professional consumer credit and homebuyer education, confidential budget, credit, and housing counseling, and a proven debt reduction program to all segments of the community.

Description:
Through our counseling and education services, we include a complete explanation of mortgage lending requirements, information on financial help available in the community, and help identifying and resolving barriers and determining individuals’ purchasing power. The Center also provides free counseling for families at risk of foreclosure or eviction. We are a non-profit community service that dedicates itself to helping individuals solve debt problems, learn better money management skills, and become wise consumers. We are very pleased to share the same vision with the City of Las Cruces: to create a positive impact by increasing homeownership opportunities in our community.
The YWCA Credit Counseling and Homeownership Center is open daily from 8:00AM – 5:00PM, with evening counseling available by appointment. In order to accommodate the working public, workshops are held both during evening hours and Saturdays. Services are offered in English and Spanish.

Housing Counseling and Education
• Homeownership pre-purchase and post-purchase counseling
• Incubation program for families needing more time to achieve homeownership
• Homebuyer education workshops: Renting a Home, Deciding to Buy a Home, Home-buying Process, Maintaining the Home, & Being a Responsible Homeowner
• Early delinquency and mortgage default counseling, and rental delinquency

Budget and Credit Counseling
• Develop a personalized spending plan and an action plan for your debt
• Credit report reviews
• Debt management plans-arranging and administering repayment plans that you can afford and credit will accept
• EOUST-approved bankruptcy counseling

Educational Programs
• Agency sponsored workshops on budgeting, planning, savings, credit management and other various financial topics
• Financial educational workshops for business and community organizations at their locations
• Financial literacy workshops tailored for school-age programs
• Pre-discharge bankruptcy education

History:
The Young Women's Christian Association began in London, England, in 1855. In 1858, the movement spread to the United States and grew rapidly. The YWCA of El Paso (our parent organization) received it's charter in 1909.
The YWCA Credit Counseling and Homeownership Center opened its doors in Las Cruces in October of 2005. A HUD-approved housing counseling agency, the Center is also accredited through the Council on Accreditation and is a member in good standing of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling.
