The Big Brothers Big Sisters' mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships. The vision is successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to brighter futures, better schools, and stronger communities for all.
Description:
Big Brothers Big Sisters is America's oldest and largest one-to-one youth mentoring service. Caring adult volunteers, "Bigs", share everyday experiences with a child, a "Little." In each friendship created and nurtured there are little moments, big magic.
History:
Big Brothers Big Sisters has been serving children in the community for over 20 years. There are two programs that provide the opportunity to create magic: a community-based program and a school-based program. The community-based program allows matches to meet in the community, two to three hours per week, a couple of times a month. The school-based program allows matches to meet one hour a week in on-site programs at elementary or middle schools. Both programs require an application and screening process for all volunteers.
