MISSION STATEMENT: - To assist New Mexican by planning, leading and coordinating an integrated network of public and private support; - To reduce the impact of poverty on people served by providing services that prevent or reduce poverty; - To reduce the impact of poverty on the State of New Mexico; - To impact positively the social and economic health of New Mexico; - To impact positively the social and economic health of New Mexico; and - To assure low-income and disabled individuals in New Mexico equal participation in the lives of their communities.

Description:
The Income Support Division (ISD) provides services to New Mexicans out of the central office in Santa Fe, as well as through 33 offices statewide.

Most programs designed to benefit the very low-income are administered by ISD including:

• Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps) - helps many low- income households buy the food they need to stay healthy, productive members of society. SNAP Benefits are simple to use when you purchase food products at your grocery store.

• Temporary Cash Assistance - monthly cash benefit to be used to meet basic family needs such as housing, utilities, and clothing costs.

• General Assistance (GA) - is a limited state-funded program that provides financial assistance to children and disabled adults.

• Community Assistance Programs - These programs provide emergency assistance through nine Community Action Agencies located throughout the state.

• The Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) program provides emergency assistance to persons and families for food, housing, medicine, work and education.

• The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) assists eligible persons and families with their heating and cooling costs. Applications can be filed at your local Human Services Department Office. Applicants will need:

• The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) provides United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) commodities to eligible persons and families throughout the state. These commodities can include canned fruits and vegetables, juice, canned meat, frozen meat, rice, beans and many other excellent products.
