A. Fielder Memorial Safe Haven - Weed and Seed

Operation Weed & Seed is a multi-agency strategy that "Weeds" out violent crime, gang activity, drug use, and drug trafficking in targeted high crime neighborhoods and "Seeds" the target area by restoring these neighborhoods through social and economic revitalization.

Description:
The A. Fielder Memorial Safe Haven was designed to provide young people and community residents with a secure, visible neighborhood facility that provides educational and productive activities, that are safe and have adequate supervision. The Safe Haven has an afterschool program for K-12 grade where participants get homework and reading assistance. They also participate in activities and are given a snack. All of this is free of charge. We also partner with the Dona Ana Community College to offer adult education classes.

History:
The Safe Haven opened its doors in February of 2001. A federal Weed and Seed grant was written by three Las Cruces Police Officers who saw a huge need in the neighborhood they were assigned to.
