El Caldito's mission is to help feed the hungry in our community through the efforts of volunteers, using foodstuffs donated by various community entities..
Description:
El Caldito is a "soup kitchen". A nutritious meal is served daily, Monday through Friday, to everyone who appears for lunch. All food preparation is done by volunteers, using donated foodstuffs from various sources in the community. A sack lunch is offered on Saturdays. A full traditional holiday meal is served on Thanksgiving and Christmas and there is an annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner in early summer. There is no charge and the only qualification for services is hunger.
History:
El Caldito has been serving food to the hungry of Las Cruces since 1984. It began as a soup kitchen at St. Andrews Episcopal Church but has broadened its scope as demand for its services increased and it moved into a dedicated building at the Mesilla Valley Community of Hope in 1998.
