United Way of Southwest New Mexico
To improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community.
Description:
United Way of Southwest New Mexico is a locally independent, volunteer driven, non-profit organization, bringing people and resources together to build healthier communities in and around Dona Ana County. Since 1957, we've been finding new ways to help the people of Southwest New Mexico care for one another. Today, we continue to lead the way in addressing local human care needs. Through our Citizens Review panel we partner with community volunteers in prioritizing needs, raising resources, and funding services that provide effective support and solutions.
History:
The United Way of Southwest New Mexico was formed in 1957 with the first president Russell Poole, and first campaign chair, Bill Johnson. The first fund drive raised a total of $48,577, exceeding the $47,000 goal. There were five (5) participating agencies: American Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Salvation Army, New Mexico Boys Ranch and Girl Scouts.
